Valve has Listened!

Hey guys and gals, here are some of the things in the works for the next update to the beta.

Because of the holiday we didn't get a chance to release a fix today, but early tomorrow we should be releasing a crash fix to the servers.

After that I have a list of things that would go into the next client update:

- fix for client crash in spectator gui
- fix for iron sight deploy animation sometimes taking longer
- fix for deployed bazooka and mg having full mouse sensitivity
- reduced size of impact effects
- sv_friction and sv_stopspeed are no longer hidden for dod
- added cvars dod_playrivalrysounds and dod_playachievementsound
- suicide no longer removes a kill
- fixed bullet decals being misaligned when iron sighted
- reverting view position change when sniper zoomed ( leftpeek )

JohnM is working on a model solution to the left peek issue, we're going to abandon the view dodge solution.

I also hope to get the achievements fully working so you guys can test out the class and weapon ones, there are some rewards at the end of that path.

We also have some more art in the works to replace some of the stuff that came directly from TF2, and some tweaks to the new particle systems.

Thanks for submitting bugs and feedback.

[-]May 23, 2008 - Day Of Defeat Steamworks Update In Beta

A new update adding support for Steamworks is currently available in beta for Day of Defeat: Source, the popular World War II online action game from Valve, creators of the Half-Life and Counter-Strike games.
Leveraging the recently released free set of services available in Steamworks, the Day of Defeat update will add 51 achievements for DoD, player avatar display in the scoreboard and win panel, and detailed player statistics integrated with the Steam Community features (www.steamcommunity.com).

This update also adds support for popular features introduced in Valve's Team Fortress 2 (TF2), the PC title named multiplayer game of the year by Gamespy.com and PC Gamer. These include "nemesis/revenge" freeze cam and new effects driven by the particle system introduced to the Source engine for TF2.

In addition, this update will also introduce a new map, dod_Palermo, which is a remix of the most popular community map, dod_salerno.

Owners of Day of Defeat: Source, retail and Steam versions, may join the beta free of charge.

Redneck Games

East Dublin, Ga. (in July), and Athens, Texas (in August), sponsored their own versions of Redneck Games, with events such as mud-pit belly-flopping, seed-spitting and making armpit music (Georgia),as well as (in Texas) "red-neck horseshoes" (played with toilet seats), a Spam-and-jalapeno-eating contest, a mattress chuck, men bobbing for raw animal parts in tomato paste, and the ever-popular coed butt crack contest. Wrote the San Antonio Express-News: "There was something strangely arresting about watching 10 serious-faced guys grind away at pink bricks of Spam while Steppenwolf's 'Born to Be Wild' boomed from the loudspeakers."

After repeated efforts to communicate with the Talibans that bought out the previous host, I've switched hosting companies. We will experience minor issues (dns.etc) for a few days. In this period I'll also be adding a DoD theme to the site. One of the worst things about the move will be the loss of forum content. But seeing how we had so many fake and non-existent accounts, this will be another "purging". Your patience is appreciated during the process.
